This guy worried me and therefore has been sitting on the to paint pile for a while. I finally dove in and got him done. The Bird scared me more than anything as I really wanted him to blend and pop. Below is How I Paint this model.
I primed him Black, the Zenithal highlighted with grey and white primer.
I painted the Gold with Retributor armour, thinned down a lot and 2 coats applied, this was followed by a wash of Reikland Fleshshade in a 1:3 mix with Lahmian Medium. I focused this wash on areas which would be in shadow, for instance, under the arms, his back and back of legs.
As you can see, because of the shading and pre highlighting, the model is darker from the bottom angle.
I started to highlight up the model using a mix of Retributor armour and Auric Gold with a glaze consistency. I gradually added more and more Auric Gold focusing the brush strokes on area that would catch the light more.
I started on the bird, which I will blend up later, but I used Maccagre Blue and Skink Blue as the main contrasting colours.
I continued to glaze the bird to blend the colours further
I painted the wings with White Scar and glazed the blue towards the base.
After the blending with glazes, I edge highlighted and drybrushed with Teclis Blue and Etherium Blue
I painted his crest with Mephiston Red, the Bow with Abbadon Black and the Tabards with Zandri Dust, Ushabti Bone and washed with Agrax Eathershade.
Once I based him, he was complete! Loved this model and loved trying out new techniques to paint him. Might paint a few more Stormcast now.
